Post subject: | Headphone Drivers |
Hi! So I'm gonna build a pair of headphones, out of pure curiosity. But I think I might need some help with the drivers. I'll post a link to one driver I found, and some criteria I have, and I'll hope someone has a better option, because they seem to cheap to be good ![]() Here's what I found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Visaton-K-50-WP ... 0498481999 And the important things are as follows: - +-16Ohm impedance - preferably 2 inches - not too deep/think (the one above is 18mm, but close to 30mm is ok too) Price isn't a major issue, I just really want it to compete with what I already have, which is an Audio Technica ATH-WS99 http://eu.audio-technica.com/en/product ... rodID=4392 Thanx for any help in advance Defying Chicken |

Hi, Those aren't even headphone drivers. They're for things like phone handsets. You'll likely be horribly disappointed putting them on your ears :-\ |

Headphone drivers are rather difficult to source. Here is one, but the impedance is 600 ohms. I wasn't able to find anything 16 ohms that would do the trick. http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Kobi ... DrBUsBRaU= Your best bet might be to contact Grado or Senheiser and ask if they have replacement drivers for a particular model. Cheers |

I might have missed something, but I didn't see it specified for headphones ... I'm somewhat new to this, so this might all sound stupid ![]() |

They're designed for listening high quality music a cm or so away from your ear for long periods in either a closed cup, open back, or aperiodic enclosure. They're designed for a flatter frequency response so as to be non-fatiguing to the listener.. Other small speakers pretty much have to just reproduce the voice range for short periods of time. Though they may be rated for say, 200-20K, the response curve may look like a cross section of the Rocky Mountains ![]() Cheers! |

So I have been thinking over it some, and thought I might buy a couple of the suggested drivers, not like their price is too steep, but is 600Ohm impedance not a little too much? |
