Can't believe how awesome these speakers sound. I was watching a movie from a DVD through my Sansui A5 integrated amp and the amount of background sound that I could hear. In one scene there was a fire burning, I could actually hear the sound of the flames licking at the logs as it burned. Amazing!

*** Although see the post on the Tube/Thermionic Valve sections about the overall sound level being low ***

what is your wiring scheme 2 parallel pairs in series or 2 series legs paralleled?
what is your final load 4,8 ?

final load 8 ohms
2 series legs, paralleled

:D so they should be able to handle 120 w /200 w max

so what's your take after having a chance to listen to them for a while?

I can't get over the clarity and the tonal qualities. How everything sounds clear. You can hear the minutest nuance. The bass is not muffled and thumpy but just driving. I haven't had a chance to have a turntable connected to it yet but the radio/tuner is awesome.

nodz: I thought I noticed the Jaycar binding pots and speaker wire. The speakers look good. Did you spray the boxes?? And what of a Xover, baffle step correction??

Yeah, gold plated binding posts and heavy duty ofc cable from Jaycar.
Boxes are brushed, with three coats of Cabots water-based urethane Baltic pine stain, match the dado paneling I have throughout the house.
The back panel is not yet stained, because I didn't know when/where/how I was going to place the binders, until I'd put the drivers in for the first time.
There is no Xover because the drivers are full range and from my understanding, the theory behind the line array is that one is not needed as the more drivers that you have in the array, the lower the resonant frequency of the box. The size/dimensions of the box, with the dimensions of the port and the wadding, the speaker is supposed to be resonant at 42Hz. However, I have no way of checking this. These only have four drivers in the array, supposedly at least eight are required over a curved front surface to get the full effect. However, I believed that this would have been too over the top for my living space and would have complicated the design somewhat. Despite this, I believe that the effect of the line array is working, because when seated directly in the middle of them but back about three metres, it is almost impossible to determine where the sound originates from. It appears that the sound approaches you from all directions and from all heights.
I have yet to include a baffle correction circuit and am currently reading through the design theory and literature to determine how to go about it. Once I understand the necessary requirements, I will include the circuit. I have to open the boxes at some point to place the isolation spikes on bottom of the cabinets anyway.

Hi nodz and everyone else!

New here but not so new in the "DIY swamp".
I decided to build these after reading through the thread. The speakers and damping etcetera are already on their way :D.

I was wondering what size you have on the box itself (height, width, depth), or maybe it doesn't matter much as long as it is 85 litres?
And the port, is it placed centered in the lower half of the box of the backside?

I will follow this thread with great interest.

i don't know if you had a chance or inclination to try anything that i mentioned in post #37.
i'm only mentioning this because you mention the apparent size of the field width.
what was your final wiring scheme?
