Are there any full range speakers out there that can sound good and have a very good, room-filling low end from a tube amp?
Here in South Africa the single driver speaker isn't popular, so I don't have the opportunity to listen to these types of speakers. I have built a pair of stand mount speakers from the seas prestige range. Much detail and clarity, but bass isn't really there. It plays the notes, but not with much drive. Probably not sensitive enough, and is rated at 80-250Wrms, hence my question.

Ion,
If there were they might still lack what you are looking for. Maybe I am wrong but I saw a post yesterday that mentioned how most tubes rolled off at about 60Hz.
I have some Audio Nirvana Super 12s that need a subwoofer. They really reach low, but without that drive you are talking about.

Some of my tube amps roll off well below 30 hrtz, it all depends on the output transformer. I have one 6bq5/el 84 pp tuber that will go to 13 hrtz with gusto. What amp are you running? that will help to see if the amp is up to it.

Hi iondb. You could consider some of the 8" fostex drivers in a large floor standing enclosure. Would something large like that be a fit for you? Do you have corners in your listening room that you could take advantage of?

Well, I am using a Mars tube amp (kit) that was tested to got to about 30hz before rolling off, and puts out about 15wrms per channel.
My money is a bit on the low side, so no speaker building for me for a while. Our first child is on her way and due in June.
We have a open plan living room,, so only a corner on the one side.

My current speakers plays all the notes, but like RiGuy said, there isn't enough weight to it without the sub.

Was looking at decware's new dfr-8, designed from the fostex fe206/7e if I remember correctly http://www.decware.com/newsite/DFR8.htm

But that will only be way later in the year, if I decide to build something else.

Congratulations!

I have not read too much about that driver, but it seems to be very similar to the FE206E. What type of enclosure were you thinking?

Haven't thought about enclosures, as this is still on my wish-list. :worried: If it will come into reality one day, I'll try one of decware's designs.
