I have in progress of thinking to build a guitar amplfier in around 50W range and now i wonder what is the difference
between a guitar amp and a (regular) amp ?
I do have a bunch of schematics in a varity of mono amps in by binders but they are for mono Hi-Fi's ,
only thing i know for sure at this moment it's a 12" guitar speaker element i have laying around rated for 100W 8Ohm,
i also bought a guitar pre-amp pcb with a varity of functions so what i need is a amp to go with that.

Easy question IMO....Hi-Fi amps try to minimize all distortion. Guitar amps emphasize some types of distortion.

Good listening

Another distinction is that a 50 watt HiFI amp will normally only be running at a small percentage of that value since it is reproducing the full band playing the music. The brain thinks it is louder. A guitar however would be asking the amp to reproduce individual notes which are perceptively quieter thus needing more volume. Also a sustained note on an instrument will use more power for a longer period of time than most music over the same time period.
This all depends of coarse on what type of music one listens to and how loud. There are of coarse, exceptions to every case.

Thank's your answers guy's,
this amp is just for testing and playing around with theremin's and that's why i went to a (guitar amp) so when testing i just
plug power and a signal and it's ready to go so in this case i'm pretty sure i have a suitable schematic to build on.

You can go cheap by getting solid stage output for amp.
Then get a valve pre amp to get some taste

Hi,

There's some great music amp related schematics at http://ax84.com and the people there are (nearly) as awesome as we are for help :D

Cheers!

Electrically a guitar amp and a HiFi amp are the same piece of equipment. Due to the usage however most guitar amps are mechanically overbuilt, (heat, vibrations, and mechanical jarring from always being on the move), in short, the main usage is much more demanding. There are exceptions to every rule of coarse. Constantly on the move for a guitar amp goes without saying. On the HiFi side of it, we in this community I think, represent the largest portion of people who move their amps from place to place.:)
