I've spent some more hours with this amplifier. I want to emphasis that the difference in the soundstage only shows itself at lower volumes. Others say I like to listen to loud music so the difference will not show itself as much as someone that listens at lower volumes. I just now compared the D to my 300B SET and it made a respectable showing. I am not a reviewer so I cannot go into details of differences between it and any amplifier. I am glad I built it. It is hard to justify building amplifiers from scratch when one can buy a board ready built for such little money but building is my hobby in my retirement years to keep me busy. I would be perfectly happy with this amplifier if it were my only one. At least for the brief time I have had it. My opinion on anything is subject to change without notice but for now I am happy and want to listen to it some more. A good sign.

I also want to mention I see no problem throwing some pots on this amplifier build. I am using a Firstwatt B1 V2 buffer without any gain and it has plenty of gain using only a 1V output of my computer and DAC. If I am not mistaken full output is achieved with 1.5V so most speakers will have all the power it needs with any 2V CD or DVD player or computer for that matter. I do not think one would degrade the sound if they were to build an op-amp buffer or an op-amp pre with a slight amount of gain for the front end if they think it necessary. I really like my FW B1 V2 using J-fets for all my amplifiers that can operate without any gain.

I've used stepper pots on most of my Ds. 100K seems to work best.
