Post subject:  Amplifier IC recommendation

Dear Forum,

I am looking for an audio amplifier IC, maybe someone can recommend a suitable IC to me.

This is the wishlist:

- 5VDC supply voltage
- differential stereo input (suitable for +4dBu studio level / XLR sockets)
- enough power to drive headphones with 32Ohms
- no SMD IC. through hole preferred.
- few external components

I am aware that probably not all of my wishes can be fullfilled. It doesn't need to be superior audio quality. Maybe I need separate SSM2141 balanced line receivers first and then amplify the signal?

Thank you for any suggestions & best regards,

Martin, Switzerland

Start here, perhaps. There are dozens of options.

Mouser also sells a kit, check ADAFRUIT as the manufacturer.

Cheap enough.

Hi You are going to run into problems with differential inputs, but for all else the LM386 should do fine. Each DIP 8 pin IC can deliver about 500 milliwatts. Few external parts and while they like more voltage will work at 5. I seem to recall a newer IC by Texas Instruments that is a dual channel and can do the job. I believe they had on their site a way to use a differential input. Someone else here may know of it.

Good listening

Just did a parametric search on Digikey for something suitable with a single 5V supply and came up with:

TPA6021A4N
BA3121N
TDA7266SA
NJM2076D
AN7510

Cheers!
