Well I had a little time this weekend and managed to coble this Aleph 5 together.

OK I didn't build it. Called my friend Tim to discuss his thoughts on these amps and he made me a deal on this I could not refuse.

This amp pounds on the Jordan's really amazing stuff. Smooth non-harsh highs, gut kicking lows and dead quiet background.

Look at the toroid in this thing. It's 1.2Kva!

Still going to tackle the F5, but may wait for the Pass boards to come out.

Gary,
Is that toroid a 1240VA with between 27.2 and 29Volt secondaries?

So, is that an Aleph 5 or did your friend just loan you an amp for a while? Just curious because my toroids that I think are the same have about zero use right now and I wonder what amp is using them, maybe I would build it to get some use out of them. The only amps I know of right now that use the nearly 40V DC rectified voltage is the LME49810 and other LME498** chips. Some people claim they are not so hot but National Semiconductor seems to think they are Ultra HiFildelity for audiophiles. National recommends 72Volt rails! But you can use even up to 100 supposedly. Anyway, Curious what amp that is.

Hi Gary,

That looks great. I'm sure it is a great match for the Jordan. The toroid is monster! What is the total weight on the unit? Can you posts some pictures of the amp and power supply modules.

Cheers,
Gio

RI, I'll have to look inside again to see if the specs are printed on it. I really have no idea.

She's all mine by the way and yes it's an Aleph 5.

I'll post a few inside shots tomorrow.

Total shipping weight was 51 pounds!

Heavy sucker!
I think my toroid is 24lbs.
I will be busy tonight. LM3886 has hum in speakers when not connected to Technics CD player and the PS has hum all the time. Guess I need to reconfigure its layout and twist up some wires.
Looking forward to the pics :)
Ri

Here's a few pics of the internals.

I can't see any markings that have specs on the toroid, but it does say Bel Canto on it next to the serial number.

This amp sounds amazing. Great clarity in the highs with zero harshness, the soundstage depth is the best I've ever heard and the bass control is amazing.

Gary,

That is very nice all around. Is the enclosure DIY also?

Cheers,
Gio

I really don't know, but I do know that he does have boards produced for his own use on occasion.
