Here is my 4th Class D amp in the last few months based on the hifimediy Eastern Audio Technologies T4 amp module. It is claimed to produce 180W pc into 8ohms at extremely low levels of THD. And is very Tripath. Where this module shines above the rest is crow-bar speaker protection built on the PCB, no fan (apart from me) high grade audiophile components (M-Caps, big chokes etc) and the glorious ability to accept DC or AC. Yes a full rectification network on board.

For me the way to squeeze the best out of the "Ds" is to feed them a big robust DC PS. I used an Altronics 500VA 30 + 30 toroid and capable of a 16A delivery. Through a rec bridge into a 15,000uf cap. Yes this time just one. But it is snubbed with a 10uf 100V poly which itself is snubbed by a 0.1uf 630V poly.

As usual with all my amps and most preamps I install a RFI\EMI power filter and choke the power cord. A Jaycar 2U 19" Black Stipple finish rack mount enclosure and the faint amber LED dress the device. Where I cut lose on this build is the super heavy, insulated speaker binding posts at the back. I wanted this to be an Audiophile strength build so the heavier binding posts. And to cement that desire I called this one "Audiophile" .

Only a few hours on the new baby so a way to go but good stereo imaging, great sound stage and excellent transparency. Good so far hoping to get even better in the next few months.

This amp has taken a while but it is really starting to sound great. In the next few days it may be driving some AU$60K Verity speakers. The 100W Mirage is driving the $30K Brodmanns but to have this inexpensive, 180W amp, drive some serious transducers could be exciting.

I'll report back.

This amp sold to a club member who had $90K of speakers in his house. He hopes to sell off half.

The amp, T4 "Audiophile", drove the $60K Verity speakers extreemly well. Never before heard bass.

Just received a second one of those modules. The first amp built with these sold to a very happy customer. I'm half way through the build of the second amp. Looking forward to having another listen to this true tripath module with high end components.

I may have listed this else where.

Latest build with these T4 modules. This time no extrenal PS just a big Tranni - 500VAC - straight onto the module. On board there is a Motorola MUR2030 (30A) bridge with ultra fast soft recovery semiconductors and 10,000uf Nichicon cap. Just enough to keep the amp pumped.
I called the amp “najah” which is Iranian for success.

After a number very successful builds in these compact Hammond wood cheeked chassis I thought a matching power amp with external PS maybe the perfect compliment. The amp is a hifimediy 180W T4 Tripath Class D. All the PS is on board and all high quality components. The external PS is really just a big heavy 500VAC toroid.

The amp, as with "najah", produces excellent bass is dead quiet and runs cool. I've included some of the other builds just to show my "three of a kind" hand.

I like, fully seperating the transformer to elminate the noise from leaking into the amp.

Not only that I can build other amps which use a similar AC voltage and share the one Tranni box.

Upgrade the input caps in “Njira” to Mundorf Al foil and oil.

While I up graded the caps in the D amp I put my 6V6 SE UL Black Lace back in my main system. Though I loved the warmth and emotions the amp brought I felt I was missing something.

The Class D amps appear to have PRaT by the ton. Now Njira is back in I have full deep expressive bass, crystal clear mids and extended treble. Though I enjoy my tube amps for a time I’m probably really hooked on Class D amps these days.

I’m waiting for the direct digital amps to come on the market. I’ll give them a go when released.
