As you know I have built a number of amp based around the LM3875 including a pair of monoblocks. I think the chip is first class from a sonic perspective, in fact the guy I sold the monoblocks too still raves about them years later comparing them with his uni-amp based PP KT88 monoblocks.

If you go adding massive filtering caps you are getting away from the "Gainclone" formula. It specifies 1500uf caps. I would snub these though. The reason for the 1500uf caps, as Gio pointed out to me years ago, is a better mid range. When I built the Synergy which (at that point) was the third gainclone I had built, I wanted to try massive filter caps but retain the mid range purity the gainclone can have (not to mention razor shape instrument placing in a holographic sound stage).

To keep the mids clean and defined I snub the 10,000uf 100V electros with 10uf 100V polies and they, intern, snubbed by 0.1uf green caps. The 10uf polies should retain the mids and the 0.1uf cap reduce noise in the big electros. It worked. I sold the Synergy years ago based purely on its clarity of sound and finely rendering of mids. Also the Synergy is a minimalist construction, no cct. brd. at all.

I have assembled some LM3886s in bridge mode but have yet to install in an amp. So I can't compare at this point. I can still get the LM3875 from where I work or order on-line http://www.jaycar.com.au

Hi Mark,

my second love, a Honda CB1300 SuperFour. That little thing gives me a lot of fun on the road :D.
You should listen the sound. A real symphony. Incomparable to all of my audio gear. :lildevil:.
