I just had to share the joy.

I picked up a Monarchy SM-70 Pro today at lunch...a guy was selling on Audiogon and once I figured out he was local I knew I would not be able to resist!

On the DIY front, I will probably have to change the gain stage resistors to make it more compatible with my tube pre but I am going to try it out tonight before tinkering.

I listened to it on the guys ancient AR-100s and was blown away...I cannot wait to get it into my system...2.5 hours before work is over...arrrgh!

Good find. I imagine you got a good price. If you do pop it open, snap some pictures of the inside.

Cheers

I plan on popping the top tonight...it is very simple, 6 screws.

I gotta see where they hid the op-amp buffer...it might receive a burson transplant one day.

Here's a pic of the outside I took last night...baby needs a wipe down!

That looks like a well built unit. If you really wanted to, you could easily put some small capacitors on the rectifiers.

It's stone quiet so I don't really see a need.

You really got a good bargain, that amp looks well designed and even has paralleled capacitors, toroid transformer and paralleled output transistors, if you ask me I would surely call an amp with that much beef hifi, and if you did component upgrades you could call it 100% DIY.

If you don't mind, I would like to know how much you paid for it and if possible were you could purchase one. In exchange I can give you upgrade and modification ideas, because there are some improvements you could make if you so wish.
