For my next build, I've decided to build an SS headphones amplifier. Follow the link if you fancy a look, I'll be building curcuit 1.

Feel free to make any comments or voice your suggestions.

Kind regards, John.

Hi John, were you thinking of the buffer as well? Were you going to make a PCB and what are you power supply plans?

I have been thinking of including the buffer circuit. I'm working on building the circuit within Tina and seeing what the results are. Overall though, my ears will be making the final decision.

Regarding the power supply, I have a feeling I'll be sticking to a linear supply for simplicity. Although I do have a +/- 15V Switch mode supply kicking about somewhere. If this supply will supply the current needed, I may well use this.

Kind regards, John.

Looks like it will be a nice build. Rod Elliot has on of the amps on his site http://www.sound.westhost.com/project70.htm with current BJT info and other useful information.

Thank you for the additional information. After reading his write up, I think I might go for a regulated supply. I have some 7812s and I think some 7912s kicking about so I think I'll easily be able to build a regulated supply for the phones amp. I seem to be becoming a fan of the JLH amplifiers...anyone noticed? ;)

Kind regards, John.

7812 / 7912 voltage regulation is very easy to implement so I would do that too. You could even use your SMPS as the minimum voltage drop is 2 or 2.5V.

I'm tempted to keep the SMPS back for a valve project. It's a power supply taken from an audio mixer so has multiple power rails. +/- 15V +5V and +48V so feel it may be worth using it for a valve project.

I'll probably build a linear regulated supply, all I need to get hold of is a transformer. :)
