During the time I am waiting for my teacher to return my 6T9 pp tube amp project I thought I'd build a pre-amp for my guitar, I'll probably build it on a proto-board somewhere along the lines of this schematic (http://www.till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/) by J. Donald Tillman, I'll probably substitute the J201 due to problems getting them here. Any ideas are very welcome! The idea was to stuff it inside the guitar control-housing.

Hello 91lieb, I have actually done exactly what you plan on doing. I have an electric Bass guitar and about a week ago I decided to take the back of and see if there was enough space to install the preamp and the 9V battery inside.

It was very easy to do and I have an output switch on the front of the bass with an indicator LED. there is a power switch on the back and an adaptor plug for the rechargeable 9V battery inside.

I too could not get hold of a J201 so I used what I could find, it seems that any N-channel FET will work, breadboard and experiment first. I used a 2SK68, but there was a more common FET I tried that also worked.

Hi Crazzy

Do you have any pics of it you can post? I'd like to see how it turned out, mine is mothballed at the moment because we have our version of the SATs in school and on top of that I found a set of LC Audio ZP 2.1 SE class-D amp modules that I'll build a power-amp out of. I'll make another thread about that.

Regards
Ebbe

Yes, I do have pictures, and actually the set up worked out pretty good too. I plan on making a schematic for the setup I have. ;)

Be very care full if you drill a whole in the front for the switch, the varnish is brittle and if you make a mistake it can't be easily fixed. :xfingers:

Enjoy the pictures.

Nice work! I don't know if I want to make any external changes but I have to say you've got a nice spacey control-housing there, mine is really cramped so I'll have to give it some thorough thinking through before I do anything. (will post pic of control-housing later) Aside from the pots inside a have a switch for switching between the pick-ups (1 or 2 or both) in a smaller housing.

Cheers

Ebbe
